TunePat Review: The Software Works, the Question Is Whether You Should

TunePat Review

TunePat converts streaming music into ordinary audio files you keep on your own drive. By every account, including the customer reviews, it does that job well.

This TunePat review covers how well, what it costs, and the part most reviews of this category skip entirely, which is whether using it breaches the agreement you already signed with your music service.

Four and a half stars from 406 reviews, with every negative review answered within about a day.

A Spotify converter lives or dies on two things, which are whether it finishes a long playlist without falling over and whether the files it leaves behind are tidy enough to live in a music library.

The praise is consistent and practical. A simple interface, batch conversion of whole playlists, output in MP3, FLAC or WAV, and track details carried across so your files are not a folder of untitled numbers.

The complaints are narrower.

Slow conversion on older machines, registration codes that did not arrive by email, and a free trial limited enough that you cannot really finish anything with it, which is a normal way to sell software and still the thing that most often turns a curious user into an annoyed reviewer.

One number deserves a note. Only 32 of those 406 reviews came in the last year, so the profile mostly reflects older versions rather than the software as it is today.

The Pricing, and Which Plan Wins

TunePat

LicencePricePer monthMoney back

1 year$44.95, from $59.95$3.755 days
Lifetime$89.90, from $129.90One payment30 days
Music One lifetime$159.90, from $259.90One payment30 days

Three months costs $9.98 a month. A year costs $3.75 a month. That is the widest gap on the page.

The quarterly licence is the one to avoid. At $29.95 for three months it costs more than two and a half times the monthly rate of the annual plan, and three quarterly renewals alone cost as much as buying it outright.

Guarantee on subscriptions5 daysAgainst 30 on lifetime

A lifetime licence pays for itself against the annual plan in exactly two years.

So the decision is simple. If this is a one off job, take the annual plan and cancel, and if you expect to keep converting for more than two years, the one off purchase is cheaper from that point on.

Watch the guarantee though, because it works the wrong way round. The subscription plans carry five days of money back cover while the lifetime purchase carries thirty, which means the cheaper commitment gives you less time to change your mind.

The Part Nobody Puts in the Comparison Table

This is why the score is not higher, and it has nothing to do with the software's quality.

  1. Streaming services licence you access, not ownership of files
  2. Their terms generally forbid copying or redistributing tracks
  3. Many countries also have laws against circumventing copy protection
  4. Breaking the terms can put your streaming account at risk

Tools in this category usually describe themselves as recording the audio stream rather than breaking protection, and the legal position varies a great deal between countries, with personal copies treated differently in different places. We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice.

What we can say plainly is that the question exists, that the marketing on these products does not raise it, and that anyone buying a Spotify converter should decide how they feel about it before the money leaves their account rather than afterwards.

Sharing converted files with other people is a different matter again, and that one is straightforwardly not allowed anywhere.

Who It Suits

TunePat

It suits somebody who keeps losing offline playlists when a subscription lapses, who travels somewhere with no signal for weeks at a time, or who wants a local archive in FLAC sitting on a drive they control rather than a cache inside an app that expires the moment a payment fails.

It does not suit somebody who simply wants cheaper music, because the cost of the one off purchase buys a fair few months of the streaming subscription you would still need to run alongside it.

Lifetime Licence Value7.5 / 10
Subscription Guarantee3 / 10

Overall Score6 / 10

Six out of ten, and the software is not what costs it. Reviewers rate it 4.5 from 406 ratings, the company answers every negative review within a day, and the lifetime licence at $89.90 breaks even against the annual plan in exactly two years. What pulls the score down is a five day guarantee on subscriptions against thirty days on the lifetime, a quarterly plan at nearly three times the annual monthly rate, and a legal question the marketing never raises. Anyone reading a TunePat review should settle that question first and pick the annual or lifetime plan second.
