About Bevel
Bevel is a men’s health and grooming brand founded to better meet the needs of people of color. As the company has grown to meet the needs of marginalized communities, Bevel’s ever-expanding customer base extends to men of all ethnicities.
Bevel specializes in shaving products and was one of the winners of the 2016 GQ Grooming Awards. The brand advertises that its shaving products are primarily for coarse, frizzy hair without irritating the skin or leaving bumps. This Bevel Shave review takes a closer look at the brand to help you decide whether the products are worth buying.
Overview of Bevel
Bevel was created in 2013 when Tristan Walker founded the brand under the umbrella of his new company Walker & Company. At the time, Walker was frustrated with the lack of shaving options that met his needs as a black man. Bevel is his solution to this problem.
Walker set out to develop a system that would shave coarse, curly hair without leaving the commonly dreaded razor burn that had plagued him since his youth. He wanted to develop a high-quality, stylish shaving system that would serve this market. In addition to shaving products, Bevel offers instruction manuals and publishes tutorial videos showing how to create certain styles and shave most effectively to avoid irritation.
After initially only offering shaving systems as part of an online subscription model, Bevel is now also available in retail stores and has expanded its product range to include body, hair and skin products. Although the Bevel collection is designed for men, many women also enjoy their products, according to customer reviews. As the community has grown, Bevel has gained a number of celebrity admirers, including Nas and Magic Johnson.
This in-depth review of Bevel Shave goes back to the beginning and focuses exclusively on Bevel’s line of shaving products.

It’s time to explain the essentials of this bevel shaving system test.
Bevel Priming Oil Review
Much to the delight of the Bevel Shave review, each Bevel Shave product has a little two-word job description. The Bevel Priming Oil prepares and soothes the skin. This is the first step in the bevel shaving process because moisture is the sign of calm, prepped skin and hair.
Those prone to dry skin will be pleased to know that the Priming Oil does not contain alcohol and instead uses castor oil to fight infection.
The first step of the bevel shave combines sunflower, olive and lavender oils to moisturize and soothe skin and hair while reducing itching and irritation. By the end, the face should be about as oiled up as if it had spent the day at the Jersey Shore, and twice as relaxed.
Priced at $14.95 for a 60-ml (2 fl. oz.) bottle, it seems like a luxurious opening act in a nice, clean bottle, because men (and women) deserve to treat themselves.
Bevel Shave Cream Review
While the Priming Oil prepares + soothes, the Shave Cream moisturizes + protects. Separately, Bevel Shave Cream conditions skin and hair like a bather who’s been lying on his towel too long: with a healthy dose of aloe vera. Bevel points out that unlike water-based shaving creams, they use everyone’s favorite post-sunburn plant as their main ingredient.
Aloe vera is combined with shea butter, comfrey extract and white tea to lock in moisture and soothe skin and hair, but with the added benefit of a protective layer of moisture that allows the razor to glide over the skin like a surfer on a wave.
The Bevel Shave Cream has the same clean look and costs $14.95 for a 100 ml (3.4 fl. oz.) bottle. It’s another product that might seem like an indulgence, but if it solves stubborn bumps and cuts and maybe even sunburn, it’s hard to argue against it.
Bevel Shave Brush Review
In the truest sense of the word: the Shave Brush lifts and exfoliates the hair. The label says it all. The bonus of the Shave Brush is that its bristles fulfill three functions that are lost when applied by hand. They whip up the shaving cream to better moisturize the skin. The bristles gently remove impurities from the skin, which basically means that they remove dead skin. And finally, they allow for a closer shave by lifting the hair.
An added benefit is that Bevel provides detailed instructions on the product page on how to use the shaving brush and how to care for it so it can perform to its full potential.
The shaving brush is sold at a lower price of $29.95. Since Bevel does not specify the material, it is safe to assume that it is synthetic and not made from the badger hair commonly used in premium shaving brushes. It does, however, have an elegant metal handle, which this Bevel Shave review appreciates.
Bevel Safety Razor Review
We are still in the literal product labeling phase of Bevel. The safety razor simply prevents bumps and irritation. It loses points because it only prevents two problems, but if we dig a little deeper, the Bevel razor does quite a bit under that umbrella of prevention.
The safety razor has a single blade to avoid the tendency of multi-blade razors to pull the hair out from under the skin, pulling and nicking the skin and creating bumps. The Bevel razor is also weighted to apply the right amount of pressure to the skin, provided you follow the helpful instructions on the product page.
Like the shaving brush, the razor features a sleek design with a matte silver metal handle and a shiny silver head, which Bevel says is very easy to clean. The safety razor is again slightly more expensive at $49.95, but Bevel advertises that it eliminates the lifetime cost of disposable razors.
Adding to the cost, Bevel recommends changing the blade frequently for best results, in some cases even within a single shave (although that wouldn’t be very practical or cost-effective).
Bevel Trimmer Review
If a clean-shaven look isn’t your thing, opt for the Bevel Trimmer. This bad boy offers up to 8 hours of constant and cordless power. The trimmer features a soft-touch handle and a specially shaped housing that allows for great control and non-slip 360° movement.
The Bevel Trimmer is equipped with a T-Blade attachment that allows for faster cuts and gives you more control when fading, trimming and lining hard-to-reach areas. You know those guys you see on the street who have the cleanest lines? That could be you.
The Bevel T-Blade is designed to repel dirt, oil and debris that can cause irritation. To clean, simply wipe the blade with a cloth or use a brush for a more thorough clean. To adjust the blade, simply turn a thumb on a dial. The Bevel Trimmer with Blade costs $199.95.
Bevel Restoring Balm Review
We have reached the penultimate step of the bevel shave. The Bevel Restoring Balm Soothes + Hydrates is another product with a double effect. Here too, the Restoring Balm is alcohol-free so as not to dry out the skin. Refreshment is the goal here – that’s the ice cream on the beach promenade at the end of the shave.
The Restoring Balm uses tea tree oil, jojoba oil, oat kernel and salicylic acid to prevent infection, unclog pores, prevent irritation and keep skin cool and moisturized for the rest of the day.
Priced at $14.95 for a 100ml bottle, it’s more affordable than other premium aftershaves, but still above what you’d pay for a standard aftershave. Ultimately, its effectiveness determines its value, but of course it is available in a matching bevel bottle.
Bevel Shave Kit Review
Unfortunately, there’s no handy equation for this, unless you want to think of it as the sum of all the steps, and that’s definitely what this Bevel Shave Test aims to do. It’s called “The Complete Shave System”, and rightly so – it’s as complete as it gets.
The Bevel Shave Kit contains all the items in the catalog plus twenty blades. However, if you follow Bevel’s advice, twenty blades won’t last too long.
In total, the Shave Kit costs $89.95, which is a $34.80 discount compared to buying each product individually. If you’re interested in the entire Bevel experience, this is certainly a good deal.
Bevel Shave Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
If we follow the logic of this Bevel Shave review, if the brand is telling the truth and the products actually live up to the claims, then they are worth it. Looking at the customer feedback, this is good news for anyone who struggles with razor burn.
All review portals are pretty much in agreement that Bevel Shave offers quality products that are particularly helpful in healing bumps and cuts.
However, there are differences in users’ beliefs. Some reviewers of the Bevel Shave shaving kit admit that they never use the priming oil, while others swear by its effectiveness. Some don’t mind the shaving brush, while others love the experience. Some complain about the price, but admit that they have come back after trying unsuccessfully to find a more effective alternative.
On the other hand, there were also some issues that came up in the customer reviews:
- The overwhelmingly negative reviews of Bevel Shave almost always related to issues with missing deliveries
- There were a worrying number of reviews that said the primer oil spilled during the delivery process
- There have been some complaints about the shaving brush shedding its bristles too much, but Bevel points out that this is the case with all shaving brushes (so it’s possible that it’s just a case of expectations not being met)
- Some Bevel razor reviews mention difficulty changing the blade
Is Bevel Worth It?
Overall, this Bevel Shave review concludes that the value of the Bevel depends on the needs of the individual. If you struggle with bumps and razor burn and have the time and budget to dedicate to your shaving process, then Bevel seems like a worthwhile investment – but if you’re just looking for a quick and easy shave, then the cost probably doesn’t outweigh the benefits.
