Is BBQGuys Legit? What 51 Complaints and 27 Years in Business Reveal

Is BBQGuys Legit

Short version, because that's what you came for: yes. BBQGuys is a real company that has been selling grills since 1998, has been BBB accredited since July 2010, and operates three physical showrooms you can walk into.

But “is BBQGuys legit” is usually the wrong question. Nobody is going to take your money and vanish. The thing that actually goes wrong here is different, and it's worth understanding before you spend $3,000 on something that weighs 400 pounds.

The Verifiable Part

  1. Founded in 1998 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by Michael and Ladina Hackley, originally as Grill Store & More
  2. Moved online during the dot-com years, growing from 5 employees in 2003 to 140 by 2016
  3. Named on the Inc. 5000 list eleven years running
  4. Recognised as Small Business of the Week by a U.S. Senate committee in 2019
  5. BBB accredited since 15 July 2010
  6. Sold in August 2020 to a group led by one of its own executives, backed by private equity, with the Manning family and other NFL figures among the investors
  7. Acquired outdoor kitchen maker Mont Alpi in 2025

One footnote people get wrong: BBQGuys is not a public company. A 2021 deal to list via a SPAC at a reported $963 million valuation was called off that November, with both sides blaming supply chain disruption. The company stayed private. It's still a substantial operation, just not one you can buy shares in.

What the Complaints Actually Say

BBQGuys

Fifty-one complaints reached the BBB in the last three years, eighteen of them in the past twelve months. Thirty were answered, twenty-one resolved. Here's the breakdown, and the pattern in it matters more than the total:

Complaint typeCountWhat it usually means
Product issues26Arrived damaged, dented, or defective
Delivery issues11Late freight, tracking gone quiet
Service and repair9Warranty or replacement friction
Customer service2Slow or unclear responses
Sales and advertising2Price match and pricing disputes
Billing1Cancellation handling

Look at the top row. More than half of every complaint filed comes down to a product turning up damaged or defective. Delivery problems account for another eleven. Fraud, non-delivery, stolen payments? Not on the list.

Three real cases

In April 2026 a customer received Darlee patio furniture with uneven welds and bent legs. BBQGuys offered a $500 credit and declined to arrange a pickup. The customer wanted $2,500 or collection. That one is still marked answered rather than resolved.

In August 2025 a Weber grill arrived missing more than ten assembly parts. BBQGuys acknowledged an inventory problem, contacted the buyer directly, and the customer confirmed a satisfactory outcome.

Also in February 2026, an order of five units placed at $44.99 was cancelled as discontinued, then the same units reappeared listed at $899. BBQGuys promised direct contact to sort it out.

Mixed, in other words. Some get fixed properly. Some end in a credit smaller than the buyer thinks is fair.

The Real Risk Is Freight, Not Fraud

This is the reframe worth carrying into your purchase. BBQGuys ships heavy stainless steel objects across the country on pallets. Some of them get dented. That's the business they're in, and it's why product damage dominates their complaint file rather than anything sinister.

Which makes one clause in their return policy the single most important thing on this page.

The 5-Day Rule Nobody Reads

BBQGuys Grills

Damaged goods must be reported within five calendar days of delivery. Five. Not thirty.

Miss that window and your options narrow sharply. The policy also requires that you not use the item while the claim is assessed, and freight returns need photographs taken before anything is unwrapped further.

So the practical advice writes itself. Photograph the pallet before the driver leaves. Open everything the day it lands, even if the build is three weekends away. If something is bent, report it that day.

The Rest of the Return Policy

  1. 30 days from delivery for standard returns
  2. Items must be unused, unassembled, and back in original packaging with all parts and manuals
  3. Shipping costs in both directions come out of your refund
  4. Clearance, Warehouse Deal, custom and made-to-order items cannot be returned, nor can Urban Bonfire or Kalamazoo products
  5. Approved returns must ship back within 30 days of authorisation

Shipping deducted from the refund is the clause that stings on a heavy item. Freight both ways on a large grill is not trivial money, so be reasonably sure before you order.

A 27-year-old company with BBB accreditation since 2010, physical showrooms and NFL investors behind it is not a scam risk. Buy with confidence, but buy with a camera in your hand. The scores above lose ground on returns and freight handling, not on honesty, and that is exactly where your attention belongs.

Yes. Trading since 1998, BBB accredited since 2010, with showrooms in Georgia, Louisiana and Florida. Complaints exist, but they concern damaged shipments rather than dishonesty.
