Overview of Bassike
If you pronounce the brand’s name like a fancy French river, Bassike is much simpler – it’s pronounced like “basic”. Basics are, after all, what the brand offers, only they do it on a responsible, ethical and sustainably sourced gold plate. The name is a clever choice, alluding to the brand’s higher standards.
While Bassike is certainly a chic label, it stays down to earth with its values. The label uses organic cotton for most of its collections and takes its mission to save the earth to heart by opting for sustainable practices, clean yet luxurious materials and ethical labor.
Founded in 2006 by Deborah Same and Mary Lou Ryan, Bassike was born out of the pair’s dream of a more sustainable future, produced in their home country of Australia. By building a solar-powered facility and offsetting carbon dioxide with every order, the brand quickly paved the way for other Australian eco-brands to follow suit.
Today, Bassike has eight locations across Australia and is sold in over 80 retail stores around the world.
Now that you know a little more about the brand and its values, this Bassike clothing review will give you the highlights.

Bassike’s first collection was inspired by a Sydney beach house from the 1950s. It reflects the relaxed nature of surf culture combined with the luxury of high-quality materials.
Today, you’ll find the same fluid ease in the collections for men and women. In the next section of our Bassike clothing overview, we’ll introduce you to some of the pants, dresses, shorts and T-shirts that reflect the brand’s vibe.
Bassike Pants Review
From creative denims to luxurious joggers, Bassike pants are always in style. Below we present the brand’s best-selling men’s and women’s pants, with breezy fits for effortless styling.
Bassike Women’s Adjustable Tab Utility Pant Review
Utility pants have made a big comeback, with their oddly flattering, oversized fit that pairs beautifully with small tees and oversized button-ups. The Bassike Women’s Adjustable Tab Utility Pant is traditionally tan and reminiscent of working class pants, but is made from premium materials like Japanese cotton and linen.
The adjustable side tabs provide a better fit, allowing the pants to fit snugly around the waist and pair with your favorite t-shirt. There are also side pockets and belt loops at the front in case you want to break up monochrome patterns with plain dresses.
Grab a pair in AUS size 00-4 for $395.
Bassike Men’s Washed Denim Gusset Pant Review
You never know where the day will take you, so your jeans need to be able to move with you. The Bassike Men’s Washed Denim Gusset Pant has a relaxed fit with an elastic waistband and zipper fly.
The trousers have a few unusual details, such as the side pocket with button fastening, which add to their charm. They are made from ultra-lightweight poplin denim in organic cotton and are available in sizes xxs-xxl.
Get more out of your wardrobe with the Denim Gusset Pant for $210 (from $360).
Bassike Dresses Review
Dresses are a quick and easy outfit – no matter where you go. Bassike’s collection is no stranger to oversized fits, T-shirt inspired designs and fabrics so soft you’ll want to snuggle up in them.
In this bassike clothing review, we present the two best-selling dresses. Both options are ideal for more elegant occasions and feature flattering cuts and unique details.
Bassike Women’s Cutaway Ribbed Tank Dress Review
Cutaway dresses add a touch of sexiness without showing too much. The glamorous Bassike Women’s Cutaway Ribbed Tank Dress has a high neckline, exposes your shoulders and gives a glimpse of your waist.
This dress has a slim fit that skims over the hips and emphasizes the feminine shapes, including the underbust support, as this particular style does not allow bras. Pair it with earrings and cascading waves.
Available in AUS 00-4 for $250, this cotton and spandex little black dress is a true closet must-have.
Bassike Women’s Strapless Cotton Dress Review
The strapless cotton dress for women by Bassike is a mix of formal and casual style, inspired by airy bohemian styles and the elegance of voluminous gowns. The classic black color is subtly contrasted by brown threads at the edges.
The strapless dress with a lace-up back and flared sides speaks for itself if you want to do without jewelry, but you can’t go wrong with simple, oversized hoops either. And with an open back, wear a center parting pinned up into a low bun.
You can find it in AUS sizes 00-4 for $520.
Bassike Shorts Review
Shorts come in all shapes and sizes. The Bassike collection includes both long and short beach length styles, made from luxurious and durable cotton twill and responsibly sourced leather. Below we present the two best-selling shorts, one for women and one for men.
Bassike T-Shirts Review
There’s nothing better than the simple T-shirt. A simple cotton t-shirt is the perfect companion for luxe leather skirts and plain jeans and can go a long way. Bassike’s designs include regular, comfortable and slim-fit styles and offer earthy, rich colors to pair with the wide range of whites, blacks and grays.
Below we present the brand’s two most popular styles for men and women.
Who Is Bassike For?
Bassike makes basics, but not just any basics. They are designed for the creative among us, with unusual features and quirky details for those who want a little more from their wardrobe but also don’t want to look like everyone else on the street.
The company offers menswear, womenswear, childrenswear and accessories. Because of the way Bassike produces (sustainably and ethically), it’s a great choice for anyone who also wants to have a little more compassion behind their brand.
Bassike Clothing Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
So far, Bassike seems to be the ideal modern brand, offering luxurious materials, sustainable practices and trendy clothing. Ok, we may just be drinking the Kool-Aid here, but when it comes to companies worth supporting, this brand is pretty high on the list.
To find out what the brand’s clothing is really like, we need a little help from customers.
In this section of our Bassike clothing review, we’ll show you the results of a thorough internet search for helpful feedback. We wanted to start this section with an official opinion on the brand, so we turned to BroadSheet to see what the Australian City Guide had to say about it.
The article on BroadSheet has some notable statements about the brand, such as that it works “like building blocks for your closet” and is incredibly versatile.
We’re seeing this kind of style more and more with modern brands, but what struck us with this brand is that their styles are extremely creative, with eye-catching details on every piece. It’s also worth noting that Bassike’s clothes are much more than just everyday basics, as they are made in a way that sets them apart from fast-fashion brands.
The BroadSheet article also refers to the brand’s “uncomplicated care instructions”. These luxurious garments don’t need to be taken to the dry cleaners, but can just as easily be washed in the washing machine.
For a closer look at some of the brand’s styles, we took a look at the blog Styling You, where the Boxy T-Shirt Dress with Tail by Bassike was featured.
The review says the following about the fabric: “Ideal for a breathable day in summer. It feels light and airy but isn’t see-through.” As a woman, details like this are important, and it’s not common to find a lightweight and breathable dress where you can’t see your underwear.
To get further feedback on the quality of the brand’s clothing, we went to ShopBop, where there were a variety of reviews for some Bassike pieces.
We decided to check out the Fitted Long Sleeve Tee. One customer praised the impeccable fabric: “So soft, highest quality fabric and the most flattering cut I’ve ever tried on. It’s form-fitting enough not to get lost in, but loose enough to be amazingly comfortable.”
This review of Bassike clothing is very helpful, and although many of the brand’s garments have a looser fit, it feels like this brand has a good balance between roomy and flattering.
Bassike clothing is quality, in every sense of the word. Well-fitting, good-looking, durable and intelligently designed, buyers seem to really like this brand for its style, fit and high standards.
Is Bassike Worth It?
Asking whether Bassike is worth it is like asking whether it’s a good idea to help the planet. The answer is a resounding “Yes!”, but not just because the brand is doing the planet a favor.
Bassike’s designs are inspired, original and stand out from other ‘basics’ labels that keep churning out the same tired and inauthentic designs. That’s not to say that these brands don’t deserve attention, because there is certainly a place for simple clothing in everyone’s closet.
However, Bassike’s basics have a touch of high fashion, as the artistically designed pieces reflect something familiar, but in a new, unfamiliar way. This is something that customers love about the brand, along with its incredible commitment to sustainability.
Bassike Promotions & Discounts
Choosing sustainable and ethical production is not cheap. It means paying workers fair wages, sourcing quality materials and using renewable energy.
That’s why you have to pay a little more for sustainable clothing than for items made in sweatshops, which some other big brands are known for. And while we don’t mind spending a few extra euros for a good cause, a little discount here and there never hurts.
In this Bassike clothing review, we’ve been on the lookout for deals and found a few. Take a look:
- 10% off when you sign up for the newsletter
