About Transformer Table
What do you get when you combine small apartments, large families and a love of spending time together? The need for a versatile place to do everything, and what better than something that brings everyone together: a dining table.
But the beauty of the Transformer Table isn’t just that it’s great for family meals. It’s scratch and stain resistant and can be transformed into a smaller or larger table in a few simple steps. Use it for whatever you need and tuck it out of the way when you’re done.
With so much hype surrounding this table, it’s hard not to see this company’s name online or on TV. It’s been featured on Dragon’s Den, CBC and Forbes, and honestly, people are going crazy over the founders’ story.
It’s the classic story of solving an everyday problem that so many of our favorite brands have. The kind that makes you wonder why it took so long to invent before you curse yourself for not coming up with it first. It’s clever, elegant and just makes sense.
A group of 6 guys and one of their sisters are the brains behind Transformer Table. After said sister moved into a new apartment with no place to chill, the idea was born and put into action in 2016 in her hometown in Quebec, Canada.
While the space-saving, easy-to-use table isn’t the only thing this company makes, I’ve had the privilege of trying it out for myself, and I’ve left no detail out in this honest Transformer table review. Read on to get the full scoop.
Pros and Cons
Below I will give you a brief overview of some potential advantages and disadvantages of the Transformer Table:
Pros
- Space-saving design: The Transformer Table is known for its ability to expand and contract, making it ideal for smaller spaces where maximizing space utilization is important.
- Adjustable size: The table can easily be adjusted to different lengths to suit different seating capacities and needs.
- Versatility: The table can be used as a dining table, work surface, conference table or even a gaming table, depending on the configuration.
- Robust construction: Transformer Tables are usually made from robust materials that ensure stability and durability.
- Aesthetically pleasing: The tables often have a sleek and modern design that goes well with different interior styles.
Disadvantages
- Higher cost: Transformer Tables can be more expensive than traditional tables due to their unique design and functionality.
- Limited models: The brand’s product range may only offer a limited number of table models, which may not suit all tastes.
Materials
The materials used specifically for the table top and other parts of the Transformer Table can vary depending on the model and version. However, here are some common materials that can be used:
- Solid wood: Transformer tables often have table tops made from solid wood such as oak, walnut or maple. Solid wood provides a natural and durable surface that will stand up to daily use.
- Veneer: In some cases, the table top can be made from a wood veneer. Veneer is a thin layer of real wood applied to a substrate such as plywood or MDF (medium-density fiberboard). This creates the appearance of solid wood while reducing costs and minimizing the risk of warping or cracking.
- High-pressure laminate: For transformer tables, high-pressure laminate can be used for the table top. Laminate is a synthetic material consisting of several layers of resin-impregnated paper, which is then bonded to a substrate. High-pressure laminate is known for its durability, scratch and stain resistance and ease of cleaning.
- Glass: Some Transformer tables can be fitted with a glass table top. Glass offers a sleek and modern look and is easy to clean and maintain. However, more care needs to be taken with glass table tops to avoid scratches or breakages.
- It is important to note that the materials used can vary between different Transformer table models and versions.
Transformer Table 3.0
In this review of the Transformer Table, I’ll tell you how the unpacking of the package went and how the assembly of the table works. I’ll also go over the basic dimensions of the table so you know what to plan for if you think it will fit in your space.
The table I ordered was offered in 4 different finishes including Siberian Birch, Australian Acacia and Canadian Dark Oak. I opted for American mahogany.
I’ll get into the details of unboxing in the next section of this Transformer Table review, but I have to say, as soon as I took the table out of the box, I was blown away by the beautiful color and great finish.
The wood was super smooth and sturdy. It felt really high quality even though it appeared to be effortless to move. Well, I very soon found out what it looked like in real life. You can find all the details below.
Unboxing
Knowing that the Transformer Table is a 6-in-1 design, I wasn’t sure how many boxes would be on my doorstep.
I figured that with so many different pieces (and considering the table can seat up to 12 people), I might not be able to set foot outside the door with the pile of boxes it would surely be split between.
The day my Transformer Table arrived, it was packed in just three boxes. It took a few weeks to arrive, but I knew that beforehand. The company tells you the estimated delivery date when you buy it, and honestly, that’s fine with me as long as a brand is upfront about it. It’s the unexpected wait that causes problems.
Before the day the table was due to arrive, someone from the team called me, coordinated the delivery date, and let me know how the table would be shipped and what I could expect on the day of delivery. The entire process was thorough, and on the day of delivery, everything went as planned.
Smooth delivery is important, especially with products that cost a little more. The people at Transformer Table really made it easy for me.
Assembly
If you’re wondering if the Transformer Table is exactly what it sounds like, it is. It’s basically a small table that magically transforms into a complete table. When you take it out of the box, you don’t need your own box full of tools to assemble it.
Instead, all you have to do is put it together like a jigsaw puzzle. The pieces just snap into place – but not in the awkward way of snapping into place, but in the satisfying way where you’re sure your new table won’t collapse under a full plate of food. The whole process was super quick, easy and mess-free.
Before I knew it, I had a complete table set up in my dining room. And it literally took less than 30 minutes to put together from start to finish. The cool part was that it also came with benches. I literally took them out of the box and they were ready to go in a few easy steps.
One thing I really love about the Transformer table is that I only had to add or remove the wooden tops to change its size. This means I can have a smaller table when I want, or a larger one when I have friends and family over.
Overall, the table is surprisingly sturdy. I felt like I could easily move it outside to entertain guests outdoors if needed.
Dimensions & Specs
In this Transformer Table test report, I have already described how to unpack and assemble the table. Now it’s probably time to tell you the actual dimensions.
Below you will find the unfolded and folded dimensions of the table and bench.
- Folded table: 30 “H x 38 ‘W x 18 ’L
- Unfolded table: 30“ H x 38” W x 118” L
- Folded bench: 17 “H x 14 ‘W x 28 ’L
- Unfolded bench: 17 “H x 14 ‘W x 135 ’L
Although the table is incredibly sturdy, it only weighs 145 pounds when folded. When you add all the pieces, the weight increases to 224 pounds and it can support up to 750 pounds.
That’s useful considering we all have a few family members or friends who can’t seem to find a use for chairs when a respectable table is in sight.
Each bench weighs 110 pounds, and when extended, it can support up to 1,200 pounds of weight and 6 people. That concludes my personal experience with Transformer Table. Next, let’s look at other feedback to get a feel for what customers think about the brand in general.
What Other Products Does Transformer Table Sell?
If you’ve fallen in love with the concept of the Transformer Table, you might be pleased to know that the brand also makes other furniture. And yes, they can be transformed too.
You’re probably familiar with the concept of a sectional sofa. No matter what type of home you live in, they’re the go-to choice if you’re looking to move, if you want to change your decor, or if you’re looking for something that fits perfectly in your space.
The Transformer Couch fulfills all three requirements, and honestly, it looks so comfortable too, you can’t wait to sink into it after a long day. It’s available in 3-, 4-, 6- and 10-piece configurations, and with each of these configurations you have a choice of how you want to place it.
You can choose between Storm, Teal, Indigo and Mineral colors. The cost ranges from $4,497 to $14,900, but right now they are all on sale for $2,749 to $6,499.
Transformer Table also sells outdoor furniture. They are similar to the Transformer Couch, but are designed for your outdoor space. Choose the number of pieces that perfectly suit your outdoor space and create the lounge area you’ve always wanted. You can rearrange them at any time.
The Transformer outdoor furniture is available in 5-, 10- and 15-piece versions and is made of gray, beige or brown wicker with cushions in beige, gray or anthracite. Each combination looks super modern and sophisticated. Prices range from $1,999-$5,999 and are currently on sale for $1,799-$5,199.
Transformer Table Reviews: What Do Customers Think?
Personally, I was very impressed with the table, but I’m not the only one. There are plenty of 5/5 star reviews for this brand on and off their website (as of June 2023), and I’m including a few here in case you’re a fan of the variety.
“This is a beautifully built table. It is very sturdy and SO versatile! We have easily expanded it when needed and reduced it when needed. And the latches on the table and the five leaves give a good sense of security. It is very heavy but easy to “use”. I can only recommend this table 👍👍”
It’s easy to assume that a table that’s easy to set up and move around is flimsy and cheap, but the Transformer Table is really secure.
Its parts move smoothly and the table is well made. And what about the wood itself? In another Transformer Table review, a customer wrote:
“I opted for the acacia finish and I am very happy with it. In my opinion, this finish surpasses all others for its stunning natural beauty and grain variation. I am a lover of hardwood furniture (all my furniture is hardwood), and this material is the real deal.”
With Transformer Table, you really do get a high-quality wooden table. It’s also super practical and magically compact at the same time.
Is The Transformer Table Worth It?
If you haven’t yet acquired a taste for it, I think the Transformer Table is definitely worth it. It looks really nice in the house, like a real premium table, and the ease of assembly is the icing on the cake.
It’s easy to move and enlarge if I want to, or reduce if I don’t. All in all, it’s a solid, high-quality table that will undoubtedly become a valuable part of my home.
Where To Buy The Transformer Table
Do you like what you’ve read so far? The final steps in buying online are usually what either kills or seals a deal. The number you see at the virtual checkout is usually a big number, but when a company is offering financing, a big price tag is much easier to swallow. You know, if you like to eat price tags.
If you’re only interested in the table (you already have your own chairs), it’s $2,699. Right now, the Transformer Table 3.0 is on sale for $1,999, which is a pretty good deal.
Of course, if you’re interested in adding a bench (and if you’re a fan of the polished farmhouse style, that’s highly recommended), the total price goes up. Here are your options:
- The Dining Set (table + bench) $3,299, on sale for $2,599
- The complete dining set (table + 2 benches) $3,699, on sale for $2,999
Of course, if you prefer to split your payments, you can do so. Transformer Table offers 0% APR financing through Paybright. Your total payment will be split into 6 monthly installments. To proceed with financing, simply select the Paybright option at checkout and you can check your installment and go from there.
If you live in the US or Canada and your order is worth over $899 (which of course it is if you buy the Transformer Table), it will ship for free. Big win.
When you checkout, you’ll see an estimate of how long it will take for your table to arrive, and as the day gets closer, you’ll get a call from a delivery person coordinating a time slot for pickup. Delivery is normally Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm.
Delivery is made to the kerbside. There is no “white glove” service. So keep this in mind if you need someone to help you carry your boxes into the house.
